Events
• Each year since our inception, JEF has hosted at least one major fundraising event. Our first event, Food, Fun, and Follies, was a hilarious evening with Charlie Hall's Ocean State Follies comedy troupe! Everyone enjoyed a gourmet dinner at either the Slice of Heaven, Conanicut Yacht Club, or the Portuguese American Club, then gathered for some great locally-grown comedy at the Recreation Center.
• In 2005, our supporters spent a spectacular and elegant evening enjoying Cocktails By The Sea at, Cajacet, the gracious seaside home of the Long family. Live jazz and beautiful scenery made it a night to remember. Attendees enjoyed beautiful surroundings, a jazz ensemble and live auction with David Long at the gavel. Patriots’ tickets and a trip to Martha’s Vineyard were but two of the great items up for bid. The event raised nearly $14,000, all of which will support educational programs for Jamestown students. JEF thanks all those who made the event a success.
• During the winter of 2006, JEF threw a fabulous Contra Dance party at the PAC! Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner, then kicked up their heels to the lively music of the Parallel String Band.
• Toast of the Town – A Night to Honor Mary Wright. On March 31, 2007 JEF held a rousing tribute to Mary Wright, one of the founders of the Jamestown Community Theater (JCT). The evening celebrated Mary’s accomplishments and the major role she has played in shaping the lives of Jamestown youth. Many theater members reprised their JCT roles in a funny and touching cabaret show. Over 180 people turned out to support Mary and the Jamestown Education Foundation.
• Sing-A-Long Sound of Music. JEF held a fun-filled family night at the Jane Pickens Theatre in Newport on November 29th, 2007. The evening featured “The Sound of Music” on the big screen, complete with the bouncing ball so everyone could sing along! Everyone was encouraged to wear a costume with a “Sound of Music” theme, such as “brown paper packages tied up with string,” and prizes were awarded by a panel of teenage judges. It was a wonderful night for all!
