Collaborative Programs:
Band Instrument Program:
Thanks to our generous donors, JEF has established an Instrument Library at the Jamestown Lawn school, enabling all students the opportunity to play in the school band. The library includes clarinets, flutes, trumpets, saxophones, violins and several other instruments, all of which are available, free of charge, to interested students who are unable to rent their own. JEF has also purchased a xylophone for the school's percussion students. JEF continues to seek instrument donations; all types of brass, woodwind, or percussion instruments in good condition will be accepted. The instruments are professionally maintained and redistributed to student musicians each school year. To arrange a donation, please contact Michelle Wagner (423-8098), or drop the instrument off at the Lawn Avenue School office during school hours, along with your contact information. Your donations of instruments and funds for maintenance are fully tax-deductible.
Osprey Project:
The Conanicut Island Raptor Project (CIRP) is a hands-on environmental education program that studies Jamestown's migratory ospreys. JEF teamed with several local organizations and individuals to give students and the general public a chance to study these fascinating birds of prey. A web camera atop the osprey nest at Jamestown's Marsh Meadows enables anyone with access to the web to observe real-time images of the nesting birds' routine. CIRP, together with the Rhode Island Audubon Society, fitted two fledglings from Jamestown's Marsh Meadows nest with satellite transmitters in order to study their winter migrations. Conanicus (hatched May 2005) traveled to Zapata Swamp, Cuba, while Comet (hatched May, 2006) went to Columbia. Donations are being actively sought to pay for new transmitters for the winter 2009 migration. Funding is also needed to pay for Argos satellite download time. Donations are fully tax-deductible and should be made to JEF, earmarked for the Osprey Project. Follow the action by visiting the CIRP website:

JEF and PTO: JEF has teamed again teamed up with the PTO to bring an exciting performance by Inca Son to the schools! Stay tuned for the date... In spring 2008, JEF collaborated with the Jamestown PTO to bring Everret Dance Theater to the Jamestown Schools. A program called "The Marriage of Art and Science" was performed at Melrose, while Lawn School enjoyed "Breaking Down Science." Both performances presented concepts of physics using break-dancing and other forms of body movement. Audience participation helped make the ideas easily understandable and very enjoyable!
